SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - Some empty lots in downtown Springfield aren’t as empty as they used to be. Hundreds of sunflowers are filling the land as part of the Downtown Sunflower Project.
After much anticipation, the Yellow Springs sunflower field along U.S. 68 is almost in full bloom and this weekend is the perfect time to visit.
Yellow Springs' Chamber of Commerce announced that although they expected the sunflower field on U.S. 68 to bloom around now, weather has kept that from happening just yet.
The temporary pocket park, a small public park, will open in the lot formerly home to the Downtown Springfield Sunflower Patch, at the corner of South Avenue and McDaniel Street later this summer.
The Yellow Springs Sunflower Field will be in full bloom soon. Located at 4627 U.S. Route 68, the sunflowers bloom in late September and early October.
