Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms and insomnia might be sex specific, and it is important to screen patients diagnosed with chronic insomnia for PTSD symptoms.

Experts say there are two main reasons many trauma centers don’t screen for PTSD. One is that doctors are only now becoming aware of just how common it is for victims of trauma to suffer from PTSD.

ProPublica reports that of the 21 top-level trauma centers in the country, only one, at the Interim LSU Public Hospital in New Orleans, has universal screening program for PTSD.
