On This Week in Louisiana Politics, new security details have been released from the governor's office surrounding the French Quarter and Superdome during Super Bowl weekend.

Lafayette Parish will hold a special election on Saturday, February 15, for the District 23 Senate seat, followed by municipal elections on March 29. Nearly 90,000 voters in Senate District 23 seat—including residents of Lafayette Parish, Broussard, Scott, and Youngsville—are eligible to vote in the special election.

There are four early voting locations in East Baton Rouge Parish: City Hall, the Coursey Boulevard fire station, the Louisiana State Archives Buildings on Essen Lane and the Motor Vehicle Building in Baker. They are open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Qualifying ended Friday for Louisiana's March 29 election, finalizing the candidates in a heated race for a recently vacated seat on the Jefferson Parish Council and solidifying the Gretna Police Chief's son as his successor, among other races in the New Orleans area.

Qualifying for the March 29 election ended Friday and now the ballots are set. Several candidates were elected outright after no one filed to run against them during the three-day qualifying period, according to the Secretary of State’s office.

Louisiana's Municipal Primary Election is scheduled, and qualifying started on Wednesday, January 29, and will end on Friday, January 31, 2025.

There are several local offices, along with local propositions and some proposed amendments to the state Constitution, on the ballot.
