Hi, we’re Magali & Stefan. We live with nature on a Zone 5b–6a piece of land here in Canada, and it’s an honour to care for it. We grow our own food and help restore native biodiversity to the land.

Each zone is divided into half zones designated as "a" or "b.” In Oneida County our new zone is primarily Zone 5b with extreme portions of the county in Zone 5a.

Well, there is now a new, 2023 Plant Hardiness Zone map. It again shows improvement. It now turns out that most of us who garden in Alaska do so in Zone 5b.

And, 6a is -10 to -5, 6b is -5 to 0, and 7a is 0 to 5. “Compared to the 2012 maps, Ohio has much less zone 5b in the most recent map.

Updated in November for the first time since 2012, the map, a standard guide to plants' tolerance of extreme cold, has shifted parts of Iowa to warmer zones compatible for less-hardy plants.
