Rutgers-New Brunswick released the following statement: The Daily Targum has existed for 150 years and has been an independent organization, not governed by the university, since 1980.
We need The Daily Targum, the second-oldest campus newspaper in the country, because Rutgers and its students need an independent voice that will speak up and shout out and hold people accountable.
Since then, student fees have funded the non-profit that oversees it, known as the Targum Publishing Company. Every three years, students vote on whether to be billed $11.25 for the paper.
