The tradition of sliding down the hill with a cardboard sled has been going on for decades during the Little League World ...

On Jan. 6, at the Westlake Recreation Center’s sledding hill, a boy’s collarbone was broken while sledding. And while he may have been following safety guidelines, a group of rowdy teens were not.

Site work at Diggins Hill continues as they prepare for the new playground and ribbon cutting ceremony set for next Saturday.

In 2016, a line item buried in a $1.1 trillion spending deal directed the Capitol Police to allow the city’s iconic hill to once again serve as a snowy sledding slope.

Guests are asked to bring their own sled or rent one for $10 from the Day Lodge. There is no lift access at the sledding hill, so guests must walk their sled back up to the top of the hill.

Green said the family has also been sledding before at destinations like Rocky Run Park (1109 N. Barton Street) and a hill on S. Eads Street.

This great sledding hill can be found on the northwest side of Lake Galena. Look for parking by Pavilion Five, accessed from New Galena Road just down the street from Peace Valley Lavender Farm.
