If you want to import some transparent images to your GIF animation, you can do so using the File > Open as Layers ... You can remove the image background within GIMP and make it transparent.

GIMP is a free, open-source image editor used to manipulate and edit images. It is available on Linux, macOS, and Windows. In the file drop-down list, click Open. An Open Image window will appear.
