01-09-2012 IMPACT London’s New Red (And Green) Double-Decker Bus That British icon, the red double-decker bus, is getting an update that will make it sleeker and, more importantly, much cleaner.

Costing $420,000 each, Transport for London claims that the new Routemaster will be 15% more fuel efficient than existing hybrid buses, 40% more than the existing diesel double deckers.

The double-decker Alexander Dennis bus that will run the route later this year will be outfitted with up to 600-kwh electric batteries by Proterra, the world's largest electric bus manufacturer.
