The researchers visited 15 East African 'sky island' mountaintops between 2007–2011 and recorded the songs of 123 individual birds for each of the six eastern double-collared sunbird lineages.

The collared sunbird’s food preference is nectar, insects, spiders, snails and small berries. Breeding takes place from September to January.
