Chinese AI startup DeepSeek’s claim of developing a powerful AI model at a much lower cost than major tech giants like Alphabet’s (GOOGL)

Deepseek's AI model "is probably the best work" out of China, Demis Hassabis said on Sunday, but added it was not a scientific advancement.

"It's using known techniques, actually many of the techniques we invented at Google and at DeepMind," Demis Hassabis said on Sunday.

Despite rattling global tech stocks with competitive artificial intelligence models, Chinese AI startup DeepSeek didn’t introduce anything new, a Google (GOOGL) executive said.

DeepSeek is the beginning of a marathon race for AI dominance. While it immediately impacted companies like NVIDIA, we don't know the long-term consequences.
