The Philippines curling team has been rocking it in Harbin, China, claiming the tropical country’s first Asian Winter Games medal with a victory in the men’s final against South Korea.

The Philippines won gold after winning the final against South Korea. This year’s Games are the first to which Hong Kong has sent a curling team. The city has appeared in six previous Asian Winter Games, going back to the first in Sapporo in 1986, but never won a medal.

Marc Pfister didn’t come all the way from Bern, Switzerland just to grab any medal of lesser value at the 9th Asian Winter Games. The Filipino-Swiss skip accomplished that mission as the PH men’s curling team seized a historic gold medal for the country over highly favored South Korea,

Husain Al Musallam, director general of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), noted that the Harbin Asian Winter Games has set a benchmark for major multi-sport events in Asia.
