Annabel Sutherland and Travis Head are named Australia's top cricketers at an awards night missing the country's best men's cricket players.

Travis Head became the first South Australian to win the Allan Border Medal on Monday night. But it also marked the first time in its 25-year history that the winner of the prestigious medal wasn't at the Australian Cricket Awards in person to receive it from Border.

Australian Cricket Awards were held on Monday evening, with the nation's best cricketers recognised for their performances over the past 12 months. Held at Crown in Melbourne, the two most prestigious awards in the men's and women's games – the Allan Border Medal and Belinda Clark Award,

Star batter Travis Head was named the winner of the prestigious Allan Border Medal for the top Australian men's cricketer, while young all-rounder Annabel Sutherland was awarded the Belinda Clark Medal at the Australian Cricket Awards held here on Monday.

Travis Head, who had an outstanding year across all three formats with 1,427 runs since the start of the polling period, received 208 votes to secure the top honour.

Travis Head and Annabel Sutherland were voted Australia’s cricketers of the year, both winning the awards for the first time in a dominant year for the national teams.

Travis Head has won his first Allan Border Medal and Annabel Sutherland has claimed the Belinda Clark Award, also for the first time.
