( NewsNation) — A growing and aggressive breed of “super pigs” from Canada could soon be on America’s doorstep. The super pigs are a hybrid of wild boars and domestic pigs. They currently cause an estimated $2.5 billion each year in agricultural damage in the country, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

An exploding population of hard-to-eradicate “super pigs” in Canada is threatening to spill south of the border. Ryan Brook, a professor at the University of Saskatchewan, discusses the damage they could cause to farms in the United States.

One expert says these so-called "super pigs" — wild boars that were deliberately bred with domestic pigs – are an "ecological trainwreck."
