At work I'm on a Dell E6410 with a docking station and VGA LCD monitor. When the LCD is attached I get "dual monitors", between the laptop's LCD and the external analog VGA display.
Check the cable connections. If you are using an LCD monitor with a VGA cable, the display may be blurry because the LCD monitor is digital and the VGA cable is analog.
