Google Maps reclassifies the United States as a "sensitive country" after changing the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.

Google Maps is reclassifying the United States as a “Sensitive Country,” just like it does China, Russia, Israel, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq. The designation is reserved for countries with either strict governments or border disputes.

Google on Monday said it would change its maps to feature the Gulf of America and Mount McKinley—but those weren't the only labels to apparently change. CNBC reports it has learned that the US was also switched from a "non-sensitive" country to a sensitive one within Google's maps division.
