Mark Carney, a former Goldman Sachs executive, was on Sunday named Justin Trudeau's successor as the Prime Minister of Canada and leader of the ruling Liberal Party. Trudeau resigned in January, months after facing a stiff internal revolt with demands for him to step down.

The relations between India and Canada came under severe strain following then PM Justin Trudeau's allegations in September last year of a "potential" involvement of Indian agents in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
