Calhoun has been making guitars for more than 20 years. His past clients include an impressive roster of music superstars, including Dave Matthews, Brandi Carlile, Keith Urban and Zac Brown.

Some music teacher friends told him that they’d start students on ukulele as young as ages 7 and 8, “and it was too hard” for many of them to wrap their fingers around the chords, Calhoun said.
