– At Hagerty High School, all students started the 2019-20 school year with a new mandatory accessory: an ID badge with their school picture, their student number and a bar code.
In the past, student numbers were listed on their ID’s which could be copied and used. There will also be weapons detectors installed in all high schools.
The ID would have a barcode on it, rather than a name or photo. The student would scan the card onto a reader on the bus, telling the school system that they’ve boarded and which bus they boarded.
If an ID card was lost or stolen, the school can deactivate it and print students a new one. The Alamogordo school district hopes to have all schools using the ID cards by the end of next week.
