This was the fate of the Prometheus tree. When Currey cut into the bark of the Prometheus tree in 1964, he was chopping down the world’s oldest known tree at the time.

The 18-foot-tall, eight-ton Prometheus sculpture is made of cast bronze, just like his brother Atlas. They look very different however because Prometheus is covered in shining gold leaf.
