After delivering over 1000 babies a Board-Certified Ob-Gyn, many of these babies with the use of Pitocin, I have heard concerns about this drug from hundreds of pregnant moms-to-be.

Pitocin strengthens the contractions in order to help make labor progress, so I found both experiences to be quite painful until I got the epidural. I didn't find the process to be bad, though.

Oxytocin, known as the "love hormone," is key in emotions such as attraction, trust, and bonding. It helps with labor contractions, milk production during breastfeeding, and sexual arousal.

Pitocin is given through your IV. Once this medication is used, you and your baby must be closely monitored. You must be 10 cm dilated before you can begin pushing.

I needed a strong drug called Pitocin to facilitate labor. I was disappointed, but I'd known it was a possibility.
