The beachside thoroughfare reopened in Malibu up to Coastline Drive on the north end Sunday, but remained closed between Coastline Drive and Entrada Drive.

Despite ongoing cleanup and restoration efforts following the Palisades Fire, a portion of the Pacific Coast Highway will reopen Sunday to traffic.

“Los Angeles County has worked diligently and with all deliberate speed to reopen PCH in a way that is safe and allows our residents, businesses, workers, and students to more easily navigate our coastal communities,” said Horvath. “This reopening is a step forward in our recovery for communities that endured both the Palisades and Franklin Fires.

Amid a disagreement between city and county officials, plans to remove all checkpoints for access to the Palisades community along Pacific Coast Highway have been delayed until Monday, when Los Angeles police will transfer responsibility for patrolling the area to the California Highway Patrol and the National Guard,
