ATSUGI, Japan — Creators of the Nissan Terra are throwing cold water on any notion the body-on-frame SUV might someday land in the U.S. as a successor to the popular Xterra.

Alas, the Terra is unlikely to come to the U.S., which is a shame since Nissan hasn’t marketed a body-on-frame SUV in our market since the Xterra was put out to pasture after the 2015 model year.

In 2018, Nissan unveiled the Terra, a Navara-based SUV aimed at Asian markets. While it was updated in 2020 and renamed the X-Terra for the Middle East, it was never sold in North America.
