The City of Las Vegas was founded 118 years ago today. To celebrate, the city government is announcing the lighting of eight refurbished historic neon signs along the world-famous Las Vegas Boulevard.
For roughly the first 20 years of the city’s existence, there was no neon. Neon signs came to Las Vegas in the late 1920s, according to Emily Fellmer, senior collections manager at The Neon Museum.
The museum started in 1996 as a "boneyard" filled with glittery façades of days past. It's a nonprofit dedicated to preserving the city's iconic signs and its history.
