Jose Aguilar-Martinez, 21, is charged in the fatal Sunday encounter that resulted in the death of 54-year-old Melody Waldecker, a grandmother, FOX 5 DC reported.

Melody Waldecker, 54, had just walked into a 7-Eleven at the Town Center at Sterling shopping center when she noticed a man getting into her Kia Sorento and tried to stop him, her family members said.

Investigators say 54-year-old Melody Waldecker died when she was struck by her own car as a carjacker was leaving after taking the stolen vehicle.

The Loudoun County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office told 7News they plan to charge Jose Aguilar-Martinez following a fatal carjacking.
