Linebacker Ja’Whaun Bentley, a key part of the Patriots’ defense since he arrived in 2018 as a fifth-round pick out of Purdue, is set to be released.

Veteran linebacker Ja'Whaun Bentley, a three-time captain for the New England Patriots, was released Friday after seven seasons with the organization.

The New England Patriots chose to say goodbye to another team captain Friday afternoon. Bentley had been with the franchise since 2018, and his release means that long snapper Joe Cardona is the only remaining player on the roster to have won a Super Bowl with the franchise.

Bentley stated in mid-March that he has received full medical clearance after missing most of the 2024 campaign due to a pectoral tear suffered Week 2, but being released with a failed physical designation is an indication that the veteran linebacker isn't back to full health yet.
