You can't click on a RAR file and open it immediately – you'll need an app to reverse the file compression so you can open the files inside. Luckily, there are numerous free apps that do this.

Once you've got the RAR App set up, you can start opening rar files. Open the RAR App. Find the rar file you want to open in your files. Tap the file to open it, entering its password if there is one.

To extract a rar file, download The Unarchiver on the Mac App Store (it's a small 14.8 MB download) and follow the steps below: Open The Unarchiver app and select Rar Archive under Archive Formats.
