While the Austin metro’s population continues to grow at a rapid pace, the city of Austin itself has dropped in the largest city rankings, both within Texas and nationwide.

The United States Army reinstated the names of seven posts. Fort Cavazos is returning to its original name, Fort Hood.

In 2022, Austin was the 10th-largest U.S. city, but slipped to 11th in 2024. This year, at 13, it's now lower than Fort Worth, which surpassed over 1 million residents.
