Another point of positive consensus regarding the Death Note Netflix movie is that for all its deficiencies, is Willem Dafoe’s portrayal of Shinigami (or “death god”) Ryuk.

In other words: approaching Death Note from an anthology perspective would work in the same way that the Final Destination movies have been able to be so sustainable and successful.

Putting critics and naysayers aside, however, consider this possibility: Netflix’s Death Note is actually a pretty great movie. Before the hate starts pouring in, hear me out on this one.
