The Chilean navy sail training ship Esmeralda will be open for public tours at Pier 27 on the San Francisco waterfront today and Saturday. Today: Open from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The 110-m long Chilean Navy LPDs are being constructed for the Escotillón IV project at the state-owned Astilleros y Maestranzas de la Armada (ASMAR) shipyard.
The Esmeralda was launched in 1953 and serves as the training ship for the Chilean Navy. She is carrying a crew of nearly 300 midshipmen, enlisted sailors, and officers.
