Jordi Fernandez, head coach of the Brooklyn Nets, informed Team Canada that he will step down from his coaching role. He has been coaching Canada’s men’s national basketball team since 2023.

Jordi Fernandez is stepping away as head coach of the Canadian senior men’s national basketball team, Sportsnet has learned from multiple sources.

General manager Sean Marks fully supported Fernandez’s Olympic pursuits when he was officially hired in April. He believed the more chances Fernandez had to hold a clipboard, the better. While Fernandez was absent last offseason, the Nets formed a “robust” offseason program for players, led by assistants Steve Hetzel and Juwan Howard.

Team Canada’s senior men’s national basketball team now has a head coaching vacancy. Jordi Fernandez is stepping away from the program, according to Sportsnet’s Michael Grange.
