A night before giving her son the news he had awaited all his life, Stephanie Hocza received a phone call. The Houston Astros had decided to carry Cam Smith, the 22-year-old top prospect, on their opening day roster.

So the skipper pulled out his phone and asked if a certain someone was at Daikin Park, and that someone was Smith’s mom, Stephanie Hocza, who then gave her teary-eyed son a big hug in the clubhouse as he received the news he’d be with the big league club.

After just 32 games in minors, Cam Smith will be Houston's starting right fielder on opening day. The club found a touching way to deliver the news.
