The very detailed Drop of Blood Emoji comes after a campaign led by Plan International UK saw more than 55,000 people calling for a period emoji to be added to the global emoji keyboard.

The emoji, which is a drop of blood, is one of 230 new emojis revealed by the Unicode Consortium earlier this year, which also include gender-neutral characters.

The red drop of blood (left) was designated as an official emoji to symbolize menstruation, among other things, this year. The design at right, submitted in 2017, was not accepted.
