(WEST PLAINS, Mo.) The Missouri Department of Conservation is hosting a presentation on black bears in Missouri on Friday.

The black bear season, set for October 18-31, offers a two-week window for hunters to track these elusive creatures across three designated management zones in southern Missouri.

Missouri has a population of about 900 to 1,000 black bears, up from about 300 in 2010. Several were sighted recently in the Kansas City area, including near a Taco Bell in Grandview.
