“We leverage our story off what happened to Birmingham in the past,” said Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson. “At one time, (Birmingham’s population) was at 360,000 residents in the 1960s.
Birmingham’s latest drop represents a 1.6% drop since the 2020 Census report was released, as well as the first time the city’s population has dipped below 200,000 since the 1920 Census.
