It was the same as the “Add to homescreen” shortcut, but without the Google app icon badge in the corner. As of earlier this month, this shortcut was still appearing on newly set-up Pixel phones.

If you want to minimize Badge, simply hit the icon. To expand it, hit the icon again. To completely dismiss Badge, drag it down to the bottom of your screen, again, just like a Chat Head.
