Purchased films upgraded to 3D by Apple will sometimes only play in 2D on Apple Vision Pro if ownership was imported through Movies Anywhere — and there doesn't appear to be a fix.

The introduction of the Apple Vision Pro has reintroduced 3D content after nearly a decade of absence. Here's where to find 3D movies for purchase from any Apple device that has a TV app.

Apple could soon change that. The company is making 3D a big part of the Vision Pro pitch, both in watching 3D movies and shooting “spatial” photos and videos with the headset itself.

That content can also be 3D, and Apple promises that the Vision Pro will be the best way to watch 3D movies. The Vision Pro will also let you see the 3D photos and videos that the headset can capture.

Additionally, Variety reveals that you can rent or purchase non-Disney 3D movies for the Apple Vision Pro via the Apple TV app. Titles mentioned include Dune, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse ...

Notably, Apple didn't include a first-party app for playing 3D videos downloaded from the web with the Vision Pro, though an independent developer filled that gap with an app called Reality Player.

Pre-orders begin Jan. 19 with availability starting Feb. 2 at Apple Stores. The headsets start at a pricey $3,499. Bulky headsets have proved a hard sell but Apple insists the Vision Pro is unique.
