Amazon will integrate Android OS instead of its restrictive Fire OS as it looks to develop a higher quality version of its Fire tablet.

Amazon is ready to shift Fire tablets to standard Android with a higher priced model next year under Project Kittyhawk to address app limitations.

As part of a project known internally as Kittyhawk, Amazon plans to release a higher-end tablet as soon as next year offering the Android operating system software for the first time, according to six people familiar with the matter.
