Google has officially updated Maps to label the Gulf of Mexico as the "Gulf of America," following U.S. President Donald Trump 's executive order renaming the sea. Fortunately, the tech giant is also retaining the gulf's internationally recognised name which it has held since at least 1552 — at least, for non-American users.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum says her government may take legal action against Google for using the name "Gulf of America" on maps, following a decree by President Trump.

MapQuest appears to be poking fun at President Trump's recent rebranding of the Gulf of Mexico. Here's a look at the new names people have given it.

While Google has updated its map feature to read "Gulf of America," MapQuest won't be doing the same, allowing users to rename it themselves.
