Former Red Sox slugger J.D. Martinez is reportedly planning a career in pickleball after baseball, per a recent announcement.

J.D. Martinez has his retirement plan ready to go. The former Tigers star signed a contract with pickleball equipment manufacturer JOOLA this week and said in a statement that he plans to play the sport professionally following his baseball career.

Former Mets slugger J.D. Martinez is mulling swapping his baseball bat for a pickleball paddle. On Monday, JOOLA, a table tennis and pickleball brand, announced that Martinez has signed an “exclusive deal” with them to transition to professional pickleball after he’s retired from Major League Baseball.

The long-running tennis club will transition into a "dedicated pickleball facility" called the Pickle Lodge at Lunken Landing.

The second-largest indoor pickleball facility in the country is building a new indoor space in Cincinnati’s east side.

The sport of pickleball is growing fast in the Greater Cincinnati area, and so are the facilities dedicated to it.
