Microplastics are everywhere, even in our brains but experts explain how we can limit our exposure to these insidious pollutants.

Research has shown that microplastics can absorb and accumulate toxic chemicals, including persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and heavy metals, from the environment. When ingested or inhaled, these microplastics can release these chemicals into the body, potentially leading to adverse health effects.

Microplastics have been found in human blood, semen, breast milk, placental tissue and bone marrow, but their presence in the human brain is particularly "troubling", wrote Ben Spencer, science editor of The Times.
