Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority light rail and bus service is shut down Monday as more than 1,500 front line employees have gone on strike.

It's day one of the VTA strike in the South Bay. More than 1,500 workers are on strike there, stopping nearly all bus and train services. KRON4’s Rob Nesbitt reports from the picket lines and checks in with impacted commuters.

Commuters across Silicon Valley are stranded as VTA’s workers walk the picket lines and negotiations are at a standstill. VTA’s bus and light rail services stopped at 12:01 a.m. Monday, as Amalgamated Transit Union Local 265 went on strike.
