In a Friday morning online vote, the Florida International University Board of Trustees hired Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nunez as its interim president in a hasty vote pushed by Gov. Ron DeSantis and board Chair Rogelio Tovar.

Board Chair Rogelio Tovar said Gov. Ron DeSantis' office contacted him and asked him to consider Nuñez as the next president.

The Florida International University Board of Trustees passed a motion Friday morning to name Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez as the university’s interim president. The motion was passed with one vote against it during a board meeting Friday morning.
