From the Corso Umberto take the alley going downhill to the Naumarche. Follow this street downhill (Via Fratelli Bandiera) this turns into via Bagnoli Croci. Continue downhill and it is on your right. There is an entrance at the lookout on Via Roma. Alternatively look it up on google maps. Enjoy.

The gardens themselves are mostly flat, with an occasional step here and there, and, as someone said, plenty of benches and shade. If your Mom is healthy enough to travel, I think she will be just fine.
