There is no entrance fee - i believe the gates are closed during the times when the park is closed.

From the Corso Umberto take the alley going downhill to the Naumarche. Follow this street downhill (Via Fratelli Bandiera) this turns into via Bagnoli Croci. Continue downhill and it …

From the Corso Umberto take the alley going downhill to the Naumarche. Follow this street downhill (Via Fratelli Bandiera) this turns into via Bagnoli Croci. Continue downhill and it is on your right. There is an entrance at the lookout on Via Roma. Alternatively look it up on google maps. Enjoy.

Of course it depends on how mobile your mother is. I know several 80 year-olds who could easily walk around Taormina, which has its ups and downs. The gardens themselves are mostly flat, with an occasional step here and there, and, as someone said, plenty of benches and shade. If your Mom is healthy enough to travel, I think she will be just fine.
