It used to be beautiful, but now it’s lovely stone walls have recently been covered with ugly orange cement and it looks like a hideous bunker. Such a shameFull review by Baronius

I have to be at an evening event at Citadelle Saint-Elme. I need to leave early (around 9:00 pm) to get back to my hotel in Nice. Considering taking the train. 1), is it safe to walk from this venue to the train station at night? or 2) is it easy to hail a taxi in this area at night to take me to the train station. The train ride to Nice is approximately 7 minutes, which is better than the bus.

I have lived here. Villefranche at 9 pm is very safe. Walk along the foreshore to the train. There are also taxis at the marina that can take you to Nice

You can take the bus #100, or the train. The bus is a good option from Nice to Villefranche, but going back to Nice it can be very packed with people coming back from Menton/Monaco, and might even just drive right by if it's full. The train costs a bit more (4 Euros vs 2) and the station is a bit further away from the actual harbour area (1km vs. 0.5) but then it is also faster than the bus. I hope this helps.
