I booked a week before and managed to secure a boat for 19th August. However, there were only a couple of time slots left. Two days later they were fully booked. I would say sooner rather than later. When we arrived on the day they were constantly turning people away so they are very popular. The boats have covers if it rains. We were lucky with the weather but I am sure it would be just as lovely if the weather wasn’t great.

yes agreed, if you're planning not to get off boat 2 hours is perfect. There is a medieval castle south west of the river, could be worth checking out so allow yourself an additional hour …
