Q:
What are the options for a 2 day homestay tour of Lake Titicaca in September, 2020?
A:
Not sure, we stayed in a nice hotel by the shore of the lake with great views of the water. I'm not sure if there's homestay available, you can try Airbnb as well.

I'm not familiar with Homestays. However, I know that Taquile Island has home stay arrangements. That and others eg Amantani, Isla Del Sol, Isla de la Luna and Surique (latter three are Bolivian islands on the lake) are land (sand) islands. Uros on the other hand are floating islands made of reeds and personally, I would not want to sleep on one. You can easily do your research on the above &/or contact Peru Travel in Puno to get more details. Hope this helps.

Hello, I LOVED Puno, tons of parades, but the main square is closed for two more years which diminishes the experience and enjoyment. I took a one day boat trip on Lake Titikaka, well worth some time. HOWEVER, I would prefer to stay with the floating homes and living, but the tour I took, only stayed with one little area with a few floating villages for an hour or so, then bolted for 2 hours across the lake to the gigantic island that looks and feels like a mainlain, where we had to hike to a VERY high altitutude very fast to eat a fish, then go hike like hell to the top of that mountain, come back down and get in the boat and go another 2 hours in a boat to get back to Puno. I LOVED THE FLOATING VILLAGES, BUT DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO DINE OR SHOP, AND DIDN'T GET THE FEEL OF THOSE FOLKS OR THEIR ISLANDS. The rest of that day was just hard core hiking and freezing in a boat for 4 hours. I would be sure to get the details of the tour. BTW, Sillistani I thought was a fabulous site. I think a homestay might be more interesting, have heard good things, but that would depend on where, who, how, and you'll need to find a tourist that found a wonderful one, because apparently it could be sour. THERE IS NO HEAT OR ELECTRICITY. THEY DO HAVE LITTLE SOLAR PANELS, NOT SURE WHAT THOSE ARE FOR.

It’s very rustic. May not be for everyone. I’m glad I did it for the once in a lifetime experience. But wasn’t necessarily the make or break of the trip. Yes language is a barrier. We Brought few food staples to the family as host gift. It was COLD - 4 or 5 blankets at night. But the baying of the family donkey at midnight was charm. No vehicles. Strictly hiking.. No running water so had to flush the toilet outside our hut with handy bucket of water. One lightbulb in our room=electricity. My daughter and I were glad we experienced this unique opportunity. But it’s not a requirement in experiencing the culture and Peruvian experience.
Q:
Hi Martin, In which hotel did you stay? Did you see any lizards/geckos in the area? Thanks! Arlene
A:
Hotel Liberatador. Good hotel (not Budget). No gekkos in the hotel - but plenty in the flora and fauna.
